damn microsoft products

Just spent a while trying to figure out why outlook 2000 couldn’t even connect to my local .pst file when accessing a ’snort’ and slug’ folder (Snort being the ‘lightweight intrusion detection system’ and slug being ‘Sydney Linux Users Group’) due to the fact they had over 2200 emails in each of them.

As it turns out I had 3 bad sectors on my hard disk right where my outlook.pst file sat (and it being over 150Mb in size i’m not suprised that it happened to be the file to be hit. I repaired the HDD via the dodgy microsoft scandisk utility, did a repair of my corrupted pst file and upgraded to Office XP of which i can say it looks really REALLY gay :(

So nonetheless I now have an upgraded outlook client, a disk with a few bad sectors (repaired), and more of a reason to convert this final machine of mine over to the linux platform… if only my most played games worked properly under linux :(
