Debian 3.0 Released

WooOOooo! Debian 3.0 Woody has been officially released and is such replacing Potato as the Debian stable branch. The new testing branch is called Sarge (continuing the debian tradition of using named from the movie ‘Toy Story’). So for all you debianites, its time to change your sources.list lines to say testing (if not already) instead of woody. Alternatively you can replace all instances of woody with sarge, but its generally cleaner if you just use the stable/testing/unstable names.
*does a little debian dance*

fat link is back!

As it turns out, Internode sent me a loan DSL modem to test and guess what? Sure enough the old modem is fried. Very odd cause it doesn’t give any console errors, gets line sync perfectly fine but just won’t auth. So now I am back online with a fat link and have been gaming like a crazy monkey again!! :-)

I want my fat link back

10 days… thats how long its been without DSL. Internode are bloody pathetic. They blame it on telstra, yeah fair enough, but they don’t tell their customer shit. Apparently Telstra were supposed to go to my exchange and rectify my fault last week, but keep delaying it for some unknown reason.
I have had to go in the mean time and sign up another bloody 4 month block with my previous dialup ISP while Internode fix my fault.

dsl woes

I decided to jump onto the bandwidth-wagon a few weeks ago. Unfortunately its been a bitch from the moment I submitted the application… *sighs*

Internode in aus have a kewl deal which I felt would be suitable for me and the lusers I live with ;)
I submitted my fax application as soon as they released the new attractive plans. But it took them a week to process the faxed application into their automated system. Ok fair enough, telstra had announced some amnesty thing where its customers could back out of their contracts yadd yadda, so there were lots of people moving from Telstra to Internode. I figured this was a fair enough reason for a delay.

My application finally gets to the automated stage where it gets sent to telstra to configure the exchange and my line etc and I get my working dsl a few days later. Excellent! I was soOOo bloody happy with the speed seeing as I have always been a dialup hoe.

Then came the first outage. It only lasted an hour, but that was still an hour when I needed to use the link. Apparently a telstra fault.. how suprising. Few days later I get the same thing for an hour. Ok, this was starting to get a lil annoying. A day later a 2 hour outage.. Hrmm.. I’m obviously getting the shits with the isp by this stage.

Anyway, after a week and a half, gaming away like a Crazy Monkey on the brand new Internode UT servers it was great! Wandered off to watch some tv, come back and I find another outage. There was stuff on tv to watch while I waited for the link to come back so I wasn’t too upset at the time. Logged the fault with the ISP and was told that I would get a call very shortly with a resolution.

The NEXT day I’m still out.. ring up Internode to get a status report and I find that the bimbo that I spoke to the day before hadn’t logged my call. Interesting.. She logs it with telstra as a fault.

Next day, Monday, I get a call from the first bimbo saying she was logging the call then… at 1630 in the afternoon! Now I was pissed off! anyway, what could I do? nothing..

Next day Tuesday, still offline. Now i’m getting REALLY pissed off… ring the ISP and can’t get through cause their phones are stuffed.. lovely.. they can’t get anything right.. *sighs* I post an annoyed msg on forums.whirlpool.net.au which the MD of Internode is a forum moderator of. I get a response from Internode tech support within the hour.. heh even more interesting :P

Wednesday, still offline, same for Thursday. Apparently telstra are slow *again* and have not visited my exchange to check the fault. Back on the old dialup now. *shudders*

Now its Friday, haven’t heard Boo from Internode about my outage. My box is still offline.. Its really starting to get beyond a joke now. I have spent more time offline than I have online. Ldets see what happens over the next few days. I seriously hope I have an active link for the weekend. I’m getting withdrawals from not playing UT.
