from gnome2 to kde 3.1.1

I got the shits with Gnome 2 and Debian Sid (unstable branch) and moved over to KDE 3.1.1. *gasp!*

Transparent Eterms in Gnome2 were sooOoo bloody sluggish, and well, transparent ‘anything’ would make X take out 100% cpu utilization if you were to just move a few trans windows around a bit. Rather annoying if you ask me. Even shifting a few other windows like mozilla for example would make screen refreshes come almost to a complete stop.

One way to fix these constant problems I’ve had with Gnome2 ever since I upgraded to it and Sid (from Sarge (testing branch)) was to use something different, and what else to try but KDE. I’ve always been a person in the back row saying how crap KDE is and so on, but really, I haven’t used KDE properly since its v1 days and its improved a *LOT* since then. Its actually very VERY nice. More to the point though it is FAST and I have yet to come across anything for me to start complaining about it, which is a rarity for me ;P

I’ll be looking at getting a few screenies up again when I finish playing around and get a desktop layout that I like.. spose I could take one now, but I can’t be stuffed ;-)

waiting for the rain to clear

I’m not impressed that it has rained over the past 2 days, cause that means its been 3 days now since I’ve gone for a blat on the ZZR250! I’ve ridden over 600kms since I picked up the bike 2 weeks ago. I’ve been riding every single day, just picking any excuse to go for a cruise :)

Least it has given my hand a chance to recover. Seeing as I’ve been riding so much, I have aches in my hand muscles that I never even knew existed! Worst is the brake hand, tho the clutch hand isn’t too far off either.

Hopefully the rain will ease up and I will be able to start riding into work again (free motorcycle parking in the city rocks!), I just don’t fancy riding in the wet until I get some more experience up my sleeve. It was bad enough the first time I rode on damp roads, it gives you this really uneasy sensation that your wheels are just going to dissapear from underneath you becaue of the steep angle you lean in on for cornering, but in the back of your mind you know perfectly well that they won’t.

…I still wish I got off my arse and got my riders licence a long time ago, there’s simply nothing that compares to riding!

motorcycle learners licence and a new motorbike!

Well, last Tuesday I passed my motorcycle riders RTA knowledge test (scored 100%, like it was going to be hard anyway ;P ) and on the wednesday put a deposit down for a bike!

I picked it up on the weekend, with thanks to Matt for riding it back home for me as I wasn’t game to ride ~30km’s home on my first road ride.

Took the bike out for a venture a few suburbs away on Saturday and then ended up riding out to Liverpool then Warragamba Dam on the sunday which was absolutely awesome! Managed to clock up about 160kms on the Sunday alone which was great. I just wish I had of gotten off my fat arse and got my riders licence a long time ago. Not to worry, I’m having fun riding it now.

And for those wondering what motorcycle I got, it is a 2001 Model Kawasaki ZZR250 Sports Tourer. It had 403km’s on the clock when I picked it up, and is in immaculate condition. I should have some pics of it available soon that I will put online.
