Things have been extremely busy.. its unbelievable. I’m officially claiming about 65 hours a week on average, its that busy. Doing lots of things with RedHat and xSeries servers. Things coming up within the next few weeks is the 2nd southern hemisphers implementation of blade servers by IBM (remembering i was involved with the first as well). This time there are about 22 blades to begin with, with the customer wanting in excess of 40! This can only mean good things in times to come.

I have been exposed to some extremely good technologies and kickass solutions that I would not have dreamed about from the Windows world. I’m really enjoying it which has really not been suprising at all, but nonetheless a distinct change since my past few win32 jobs :)
Another congratulations is in order to Nicholas of isileth.org who has also secured a position in my team, this is only one of many steps in our plan for global domination ;-)

rack

I managed to pick up a 1/4 height rack today off a friend I used to work with. He had just moved and no longer had the room for the rack so I took it off his hands :)
I had intended on actually buying a 1/2 height rack to put all my gear in but I have settled on the 1/4 height one until such time that I source a 1/2 height one.

Its not too bad, but considering I have no rack mounted cases yet I have had to just put the midi-tower cases standing up inside the rack, unfortunately with this configuration I am unable to mount anything else in the case like my 3com rack switch, cisco router, access point, ups, kvm or dat unit.. so there are still things not quite right, but nonetheless the concept is there.

At the moment everything is looking much tidier with everything in (or on top of) the rack as opposed to having servers and comms equipment strewn all over the place.
